Robot drug compounding has already become a common thing, so much so that even small hospitals like ours can have automatic drug compounding robots.
Why haven't drug compounding robots increased compounding efficiency?
From my personal experience, if people compound drugs, 5 people can simultaneously take the prescriptions of 5 patients and act separately, whereas a compounding robot can only produce one person's medicine at a time, dispensing them one by one, which obviously increases the compounding time.
Many classmates get overexcited as soon as they see robots. In fact, the development of artificial intelligence is still very slow, and the current level is even inferior to manual labor. It is estimated that a qualitative change will only occur in 30 years, but by that time, everyone will have retired, and children will no longer be able to enter the pharmacy, so don't be scared out of your wits just by seeing a robot.
Another more important fact is that machines cannot make mistakes, not even a single one, especially in large Grade 3A hospitals where there are huge numbers of people queuing up to get medicine every day. Just try having the machine break down for 10 minutes—the hall will immediately be packed with people, and by then, in the rush and confusion, errors are likely to occur.
The more detailed the division of labor and collaboration, the more every link in the chain must not make mistakes. The failure rate of machines must be controlled to be close to zero for robot drug compounding to become a trend. In addition, machines are always rigid and lack flexibility, which all require further evolution of the machines.
Automatic robot drug compounding will definitely become the trend of future pharmacies: handing over the work that machines can completely replace to machines, freeing up pharmacists to do more meaningful things. The pharmacy must also have emergency plans for machine failures to ensure that everything can still operate without the machines. This is the key point in pharmacy management.
